"TRUST BUT VERIFY"

(Доверяй, но проверяй)

The phrase above was made famous by the American President Ronald Reagan when discussing the relations between the USA and the USSR in the 1980s. We now live and work in a climate of revalidation and accreditation - something brought about by the misdeeds of the few and the drive to demonstrate "value for money".

Therefore we have the GMC, DoH and RCGP all advocating that we demonstrate Continued Profession Development and Fitness for Purpose; with the medicolegal organisations advising that we are familiar with the national guidance even if we choose not to follow them.

GOOD MEDICAL PRACTICE

General Medical Council

The GMC Guide to Good Medical Practice advises us that to provide a good standard of care, we have to:

- keep our professional knowledge and skills up to date.

 - recognise and work within the limits of our competence.

 - provide effective treatments based on the best available evidence.
